Consignor FAQs

No. Keep in mind that clothing is likely to bring you more money when it is in season. However, unlike most consignment boutiques, we will accept any season year around. We understand that once you’re ready to clean out your closet, you don’t want to box stuff up and have it sit around for months…and then forget about it (and probably miss the window again). If your items are out of season but still amazing, bring ’em in. If we’ve got the demand for the brands and styles you have, we’ll take them regardless of the temperature outside.

If you haven’t already taken a look at the FAQ about the difference between consignment and buy outright (BOR), please take a moment to do so.

At store opening, we’re looking to not have too many complexities right off the bat. However, I would love to offer BOR in the near future, once we get in a rhythm. Stay tuned!

Our starting place is 30% – 50% off retail. There are adjustments made upward based on items that are new with tags as an example. Or, there could be adjustments down if an item is from a few seasons back.  We always take the brand into consideration, and we price items according to demand.  As a consignor, if you feel strongly that you’re looking for a certain amount on your luxury or premium items, we’re happy to work with you where feasible.

Sure! If you don’t get to Olney and you don’t have a great shop close to you, we’d love to take your items via parcel delivery. Simply box them up and take them to your preferred carrier and ship them to our address. Please make sure you set yourself up as a consignor in our system first. Contact us for a contract.

A couple of tips to make sure you maximize your profit: 1) Send only the best of the best brands and condition. We’ll have to disposition any items that do not meet our criteria. Email us at intake@bougiejunes.com if you want to ask a question on what items would be best to send in. 2) We recommend insurance. We will not be held liable for shipments which are damaged or lost in transit.

Let’s talk about the difference between consignment and buy outright (BOR).

In a consignment model, the seller (you) entrusts your items to Bougie June’s (us) to sell them on your behalf. Items are priced with a balance in mind of getting the most out of your items at a price that is still a great deal for our buyers. For any items that do not sell, you would not receive any money, neither would our store, and you can pick your items back up at the end of the consignment period if you’d like.

In a BOR model, you would bring your items to the store for cash or check on the spot. The store assumes all of the risk. We would look through your items and provide you an offer for the items we wish to take. Because there is a high likelihood of not all items selling, you are likely to be offered less for your items than if you consigned them.

Here is the summary of the pros and cons:

Consignment

Pros:

  • Higher payout to you
  • If your item has not sold by the end of the consignment period, you have the option to come to the store and retrieve it

Cons:

  • You must wait for an item to sell before you receive any money
  • You will need to return to the store to pick up your money (although, we think you’ll be glad you did!)

Who is Consignment best for? Consignment is great for sellers that are looking to maximize the amount of money they get out of their items. The slight inconvenience of waiting for the sale and returning to pick up the funds is worth it for the extra cash.

Buy Outright (BOR)

Pros:

  • Get money on the spot with no wait
  • Be rid of your items without a second thought. Simply bring them in, let us take a look while you wait, and we will provide you an offer for your items.

Cons:

  • Payouts are likely to be less than you would get if you had consigned them

Who is Buy Outright best for? BOR is great for sellers who just want to make room in their closet and are happy to get some money on the spot just to be done with it.

For any item:

  • No discount retailer brands (such as Walmart, most Kohl’s, most Target, most Old Navy)
  • No “disposable clothing” (such as Shein/Temu/Wish)
  • No items with pet hair, odors (such as smoke), excessive wrinkling
  • No items that are not current trends
  • No items with stains, rips, holes, pilling, or tears even if very minor

Ladies:

  • Formal wear and wedding dresses UNLESS we are running a specific category promotion. Please check our ‘Featured Category Schedule’ before bringing these items in.
  • Lingerie
  • Socks, hosiery, underwear, bras, swim wear, and pajamas (unless never worn with original tags)
  • VERY selectively: Maternity

Mens:

  • Socks, underwear, undershirts, and pajamas (unless never worn with original tags)
  • VERY selectively: Shoes in like new condition

Kids:

  • Socks, underwear (unless never worn with original tags)
  • VERY selectively: Onesies, Toys & Books in like new condition
  • Car seats or booster seats

Home:

  • Due to limitations in moving heavy items we are not yet accepting bedroom sets. All small furniture items must have pictures emailed to intake@bougiejunes.com for approval prior to bringing them to the store.
  • Collection decor such as Precious Moments
  • Items not in current trends. Antiques can be taken selectively if they fit in with decor such as modern farmhouse.

There could be a few different reasons that we couldn’t take your great brand, mint condition items:

  • The biggest reason is most often we’re too full of a particular size that isn’t selling as quickly right now
  • We may have found a defect in the item. Sometimes we’ll find a small stain, rip, or pilling of the fabric that you may not have noticed
  • Odor (smoke, moth balls)
  • Wrinkled
  • Pet hair or fuzz

We hate to turn items away, but we also have to balance picking only the items that our customers are most looking for in order for make Bougie June’s THE go-to place for consignors and shoppers. The better the selection, the more we’ll draw in customers which translates to better profit on your items.

My closet has its fair share of clothes from discount retailers *flashback to the day I scored an awesome ‘George’ business jacket from Walmart for $5- woot, woot!*  We want to create a shopping experience where you can count on the brands and selection before you ever walk through the door. The best way we can be respectful of our customer’s time and busy schedule is to make sure that they get the experience they came for.  We strive to take only the brands you can’t count on getting just anywhere without taking a drive outside of our awesome, small town–There’s no need for that.  Our customers can save their gas money, support our consignors and small town business, and spend that saved commute time on getting pretty (or handsome) and showing off their fabulous finds that were once yours!

You’ve spent your hard earned money on some stylin’ things.  You want a fair return on your investment and you likely don’t want to deal with taking pictures, no-show marketplace meetups, and all the other annoyances of trying to sell them yourself.  Our attention to detail in displaying your items and providing outstanding customer service in a fantabulous environment for our customers to shop in helps make sure your items are marketed in a way to maximize the return on your investment.  We appreciate you!

I love feedback! If you have any suggestions, feel free to drop me a line at misty@bougiejunes.com

Shopper FAQs

You may be used to a consignment store model where a colored tag may have a certain % off. We do not use that particular model, but we do generally have a sale rack. Rather than starting items at high prices we strive to price items right the first time.

  • The following items are FINAL SALE with no returns:
    • Featured Category items
    • All items on sale or clearance
    • Featured Artist items
    • Any item otherwise marked as ‘final sale’ on the tag
  • Items eligible for return must have the original tags attached in original condition (ready to go right back out to the sales floor) with receipt and must be returned within 7 days of purchase:
    • All consignment items that are not in a category of ‘FINAL SALE’ as outlined above
    • Store (white tag) items other than ‘FINAL SALE’ as outlined above

Well, why wouldn’t you?  We’ll start with the ‘dollars and sense’.  I think the wise prophet, Macklemore, said it best: ‘Fifty dollars for a tee shirt…I call that getting swindled and pimped”.  There’s fortunately been a big shift in the way society thinks about consignment shopping. No matter your financial circumstances, it’s just the smart thing to do.

But, it’s not JUST about the benjamins.  Let’s talk sustainability.   Did you know that buying pre-owned textiles not just reduces waste (currently ~85% of textiles goes to landfills), but it also reduces pollution, decreases our water footprint, reduces packaging, and saves energy?  And, that’s not the end of the list. You can play a part in reducing the demand.  Find out more here: https://greenwithless.com/second-hand-shopping-planet/

The customer experience is a passion of mine. We strive to make sure you enjoy your time in our beautiful shop. It’s easy to find your size and your style. Our team is happy to help if you’re not sure of the look you’re going for. We do have a return period for most items if you leave with something that you’re  on the fence about.

In addition to consignment, I also source new items across many price ranges. It’s important that everyone feels welcome and that anyone can find items that meet the look and budget you’re going for.
